Sally and Tail — a bell-ringing practice book. Last updated 8 October 2026.
Sally and Tail does not collect, transmit or sell any of your data. Everything you enter — your tower, your practice log, your photos, your settings — stays on your device. There is no account, no server, no analytics and no advertising inside this app.
Sally and Tail saves the following only inside the app's own private storage on your device, as plain JSON files and photo files:
| Information | Why it's stored |
|---|---|
| Your current study piece and progress through the ladder | So the card remembers what you were practising |
| App settings (peal speed, handstroke gap, sound, haptics, theme) | So your preferences persist between launches |
| Your tower record (name, bell count, tenor weight, practice night, reminder times) | Shown on the Practice night screen |
| Your practice log entries (date, method rung, bell, inside/covering, captain's note) | Your personal record of each practice night |
| Photos you attach to a tower or a log entry | Stored as image files inside the app container |
None of this ever leaves your device. There is no account to create and nothing is uploaded to any server that we operate.
If you tap "Take photo" when editing your tower or a practice log entry, the app asks for camera access at that moment. The photo you take is saved only inside the app's own storage. We never read any other photos on your device through the camera.
If you choose "Choose from Photos" instead, the system photo picker is used. The app only receives the single photo you pick; it cannot browse your library. Reading the picked photo's creation date (to pre-fill a log entry's date) may prompt for limited photo-library read access — if you decline, the photo is still attached and you simply fill in the date yourself.
If you turn on a practice-night reminder or an after-practice nudge, the app asks for notification permission at that moment. These notifications are scheduled locally on your device — nothing is sent through a push server.
The only time this app contacts the internet is when you tap "Read more" on a method card. That opens a page from the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers' method library (methods.cccbr.org.uk) inside an in-app browser. No cookies or browsing data are kept between visits, and no information about you is sent beyond a normal page request.
We do not collect any data from you. Sally and Tail has no backend, no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising SDK and no tracking of any kind. The App Store's privacy label for this app reads "Data Not Collected".
Sally and Tail does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all.
